different locations, so be sure to visit the adoption site of the rescue group that is the holder of the pet you're interested in. However, please
realize that not all of the fosters can always be accommodated at each
of our adoptions, so if you see a pet you are especially interested in,
submit an online application.

All applicants will be screened and an adoption fee is required.
Pet Orphans' rescue groups do not ship or adopt pets out-of-state and many
rescue groups prefer to adopt only in the metro Atlanta area.

Cha Cha is a Papillon/Chihuahua mix. She has a beautiful medium length white, gray, and brown coat. She is about 7 years old and weighs 6lbs. Found as a stray, Cha Cha has clearly been through a lot so she's a little scared right now, but should settle in once she feels more safe. SmallDog Rescue considers Cha Cha a permanent foster. She has multiple health issues, but SmallDog Rescue is committed to paying for her medical care for as long as she is with us. Cha Cha's family are committed to providing her love, care and a home for the rest of her life, however long that may be. Dutchy is a 3yr old Chocolate & Tan Chihuahua guy who weighs about 8lbs. was surrendered by his former guardian through no fault of his own. What a cutie pie Carlo Antonio Campioni is! Carlo is a 3-year-old white Malti-Poo who weighs 9 pounds. He is one of a group of itty-bitty dogs who came to SmallDog Rescue from a large-scale breeder that recently shut down its operation. He is very sweet but lacks confidence with people. However, Carlo is extremely comfortable with his like-sized canine companions. Carlo would no doubt do best in a home with at least one other dog to show him the drill. This blonde bombshell is Myrtle! She is 4 years old and weighs only 6.5 lbs. She’s come a long way in the short time she has been with SmallDog Rescue. When she first arrived, she was terrified of anyone reaching for her, but in only a few days she had become more accepting and is relieved and relaxed when she’s being held. Myrtle will need a patient adult-only home to help her fulfill her potential as a confident, happy doggy companion.

This beautiful lady is Roxie! She is a 9-pound, 4-year-old chocolate dachshund who loves the attention and affection of her human friends. Roxie is well-behaved, a great listener, and feels right at home alongside other dogs. She came to us from a large-scale breeder who gave her up when she didn’t produce the puppies they wanted. She is a wonderful companion and lovable couch-mate to her current foster family, though Roxie generally gives a wide berth to men and small children. Roxie will sometimes need a few extra minutes to warm up to a new face, but once she does, she’s your friend for life. No small children for Roxie, please.

Nicoya is a terrier lover’s dream. Nicky is white-and-tan, 5 years old, 16 pounds and friendly as all get-out. He ended up with SmallDog Rescue after a short stay in a local animal shelter. He loves people and will rub up against you like a cat. But putting him in the company of real cats is probably not a good idea. This typically-energetic terrier is playful, happy and just an all-around nice guy. To top it off, he gives great kisses. Nicoya would make a dandy family dog, but no small children, please.

This lovely white-and-blond Lhasa Apso is Eve Beglarian. Evie is 2 years old and weighs 13 pounds. She arrived at SmallDog Rescue with a large group of dogs turned over to us by a commercial breeder who was shutting down its operation. Eve's coat was so tangled and matted that we had to shave her down. She was very patient. After her makeover was done, she ran around with glorious joy and abandon. It was wonderful to see! Eve is a little shy still, but learning about the kindness of her new human friends. She is very sweet and clearly wants to know more about being loved and cared for. Next stop is her forever home. Jackie is an absolutely precious black-and-white Cairn Terrier/Schnauzer (and maybe a little Pekingese) mix who has had a rough go of it until now. She weighs in at 12 pounds and is about 3 years old. Jackie was saved by another agency, then turned over to SmallDog Rescue – afraid and withdrawn. In foster care at last, she is gradually coming out of her shell and giving us glimpses of the things that give her joy. Jackie is still figuring out how much she can trust her human friends, but, little by little, she is shedding her wariness. She lives and plays really well with other dogs. She enjoys having a secure, fenced yard where she can breathe, explore and spread out a bit. Every once in a while, she even lets her guard down enough to reveal a hint of mischief. Mamie Smith’s guardian died about 2 years ago. A family member took her in, but their dog was aggressive to her. This sweet ol’ Cocker Spaniel had to live outside for 2 years where her coat suffered from not being maintained. The family that tried to keep her decided to have her KILLED but the vet didn’t want to – Mamie was still loving life, even though hers hadn’t been the best recently. SDR decided her last home should be one that loves, wants her, and will keep her inside and pamper her, so here she is and she’s ready and waiting for that special home to come along. She’s now 14 years old and weighs 20lbs. She had to be completely shaved save for her face and the bottom of her legs, but behind that pitiful hairdo is a wonderful girl ready to put her past behind her and retire to her dream home.

After 6 months of living alone in a house with 3 other dogs after their guardian died and being fed by the neighbors when they could do it, he was finally turned over to rescue. funny, spunky, friendly, playful SBFC (Small Bossy Female Chi), appx 5 years old, looking for SLF (Submissive loving family) who realizes that I will be the diva in the family. I am a feisty little thing and when you realize that your furniture is for the sole purpose of burying my bones, we will get along just fine. I enjoy long walks on the beach; down the street, in the park, walking all over you…. Whatever! Please understand that socks, dryer sheets, slippers, towels, sofa pillows, stuffed animals, etc. are fair game with me, and while I’ve never destroyed any of them, they will end up all over the place. I’m a great watch dog and will protect your house from anything, like… feet, socks, dryer sheets, slippers, towels, sofa pillows and stuffed animals. I have two favorite games, one is “chase my tail” and is particularly fun when I play it on linoleum or hardwoods, the other is called, “Remove the comforter from the bed by flying back & forth under the covers”. You can re-name the game if you want to, I’m not married to it! I enjoy long, meaningful conversations and have even gotten the entire chi-pack talking at once a couple times! Also, you should know… if it’s on the counter, I’m going to want it! I’m just sayin’….. I do looove a crate with a big fluffy pillow. I prop myself up on that pillow & keep a watch on things for the night. I’m better than any alarm system on the market! Think you have some room for me? Let’s chat!

Turrialba is a precious 4-year-old female Chihuahua who was removed from a puppy mill but placed a little too hastily afterward. As a result, she has found her way now to SmallDog Rescue. As is common with refugees from puppy mills, this chocolate brown, 14-pound sweetie is shy and timid – but oh-so-wants to be friends with her people. She needs a calm home and a patient person or family to help her out of her shell. When she does fully emerge, the rewards most certainly will pay back a hundred-fold. Spruce is a handsome brown and tan Miniature Pincher with matching soft brown eyes. He is 5 years old and weighs 11 pounds. Spruce is a sweet little guy with a mysterious past. He arrived at a local animal control with what looked to be grease burns on his back. He’s clearly gone through a lot just to get to SmallDog Rescue, where he can finally find a loving home. This sweet girl is Courteney Cox. She is a 7-year-old Cocker Spaniel who weighs a little under 20 pounds. She is a friendly, affectionate little dog who has never met a stranger. Courteney is happy, too, in spite of being faced with the challenge of being newly blind. Sadly, she had to have both eyes removed in January to stop the pain of glaucoma. Despite her handicap, Courteney has maintained her sunny disposition and is adjusting well to her blindness. She loves people and gets along great with other dogs. It’s high time this unique little dog found his forever home. Lords a Leaping is not your run-of-the-mill terrier. He’s a rootin’-tootin’, squirrel-chasing, life-of-the-party terrier. He is about 5 years old and weighs 12 pounds. Lords is a bright, attentive boy who is loyal as all get-out and ready to do anything you want when you're clear about what it is. This scruffy, blond bundle of terrier gumption gets along with most other dogs and likes to run, play and explore in his yard. Lords is a fun, quirky boy who absolutely adores his special people. He can sometimes get a little greedy – even overly protective -- about their attention, but, in his foster home, he’s learning about sharing the love. Lords has a big, energetic personality in a slight little body, but when the time is right, he'll curl up for a nice, calm cuddle. He loves walks and car rides. And he would like nothing better than to sleep at the foot of the bed of someone all his own. Lords is a character and a half who sometimes does handstands and cleans your face and ears with all his kisses. 1 1/2 yrs old, 10 lbs - Skippy is such a cute little man. He listens well and loves to be held. He also loves to play with his chew bones and explore the yard. Skippy has been abused and so he is timid of new things and fast movments. If you raise your voice at all, he will go into hiding behind the couch or the sofa. He loves to go for walks as long as you are going in the direction he wants to go. He puts on the breaks when you try to lead him so you end up carrying him half way home! LOL Could be that hes' tired and just smart enough to know how to be picked up too! Skippy needs a home with no small children, no scary voices and lots of love. If you have a fence it will need to be very secure around the bottom b/c he knows how to out smart you and the fence! Georgie Porgie may be a little too shy to kiss the girls and make them cry; he is more the running away type. My name is Jumpin Jack Flash and I am one of the best family dogs in SmallDog Rescue right now! I am a happy boy, about 6 years old and solidly built at 16lbs. And who could resist my super-cute underbite? Like most terriers, I am active and smart! I have lots of energy to spend so a fenced in yard or regular walks would be great! Once I've had my excersise I like to flop down with my family for a nice cuddle. I love to play with everyone - two legs or four, it doesn't matter to me. I am very affectionate and love people. Not too sure about cats, though! And, I'm a very loyal boy. I'd do best with older kids.

8 yrs old, 15 lbs - Roxy is on medical hold for adoption b/c she Roxy has heartworms. Roxy is a wonderfully sweet little girl who has been neglected all her life. Sarah Killikelly is a sweet girl who’s ready for better days. Sarah is a 5-year-old, 11-pound Yorkshire Terrier. She recently arrived at SmallDog Rescue in a sizable group of dogs released by a big out-of-state breeding operation. She came shaved down from head to toe, which suggests her coat was probably matted and dirty far beyond a brush-out. It is easy to tell that, when it grows out, she is going to be one gorgeous little Yorkie. Sarah is quiet and shy and bemused by the sudden change in her life. WE know it’s for the better. This beautiful blonde boy is Mr. Muggles, a purebred Pomeranian. He is 11 years old and is a sweet gentleman doggy. Mr. Muggles and his two companions (also seniors) were surrendered by family members on the death of their caretaker. Yet another unfortunate example for why everyone should make arrangements for the care of their pets should anything happen! But, don’t let “Mugs’” age fool you, he is still a playful boy! Mugs weighs 9lbs. In his foster home he likes to play with the other dogs in the house, then settle into a lap for some cuddles. He also does fine with the cat! Bo is a 4 year old 12 pound neutered purebred Yorkshire Terrier. He was turned in by his guardian to a local animal control in a matted state and with a very bad haircut. He since has been professionally groomed and looks great. Bo has had his rabies, DHPP and bordetella vaccines. He is heartworm negative and on preventative. Also, he has been dewormed and given flea preventative. Bo is a wonderful, loving dog that likes to be by his guardian. He gets along with other dogs and cats. Bo loves playing with his toys, riding in the car and going for walks. He is generally a low activity dog that likes to be petted while you watch TV or read. Bo sleeps on the bed with his foster mom and is quiet all night. He would do best in a family that has no children under the age of 12. Preference given to those with a prior, verifiable pet history. Justice is a 1 yr old fawn coated, male Chihuahua mix about 10lbs. He was rescued from a commercial breeding facility in Mo. He loves the outdoors and likes to exlpore. He is energetic and playful. He likes dog toys - the chicken and a bowling pin that are his favorites. He will chew on rawhide bones/ greenies too. He plays well with his other doggie friends and is a very gentle dog. He is also very sweet and likes to cuddle and nap with his special person. He has even started to give kisses. He can be afraid of certain people/noises outside of the house, but we're working on that - he seems to get better as the time goes by. To adopt you must have a confirmable pet history, experience with small breed dogs, another doggie companion in the home, and a fenced in yard. Thunderbird, affectionately known as T-Bird, is a handsome peke who was used as a stud in a puppymill, living in horrible condition. Fortunately, he is better shape now and doesn't appear to have any major health issues. T-Bird will need an adult only home and, preferably, one that is experienced with the pekingese breed. Rita Hayworth is an adorable Beagle/Collie mix that came to SDR from a local animal control. She has a beautiful tri-color coat. Rita is 2 years old and weighs 23lbs. She is a sweet girl that is very loyal and affectionate to her special people. Rita can get a little shy in 'social situations' so she'll need a patient home to help her when its time to go out on the town. At home, however, she is a fun, happy, dog. She loves to play with toys and chew on nylabones. And most of all, loves to romp in the fenced-in yard and then snuggle with her foster parents for a nice, restful nap. What a stroke of luck for Gilley Gambel Oak! This 14-pound, 3-year-old Rat Terrier mix was found as a stray by Good Samaritans who knew just what to do. They took him in, looked high and low for his guardian and, when their efforts were exhausted, they turned to SmallDog Rescue to help Gilley find his home for life. Nicknamed “Doodlebug,” this little man is super-sweet, confident and affectionate. He bonds nicely with his people and loves lap-time. He’s a fast learner and seems to be picking up quickly on proper house manners. And he really enjoys the company of other dogs, so a home with an equally social dog-pal would be a big plus. We are unsure about children or cats, so Gilley might be best-suited for an adult-only home or one with older children.

This sweet, shy little one is Gloria Coates, a tiny gray Toy Poodle. Gloria is 5 years old and weighs all of 7 pounds. In foster care, she is slowly learning about living life as something other than a “working girl.” She has figured out the joy of bellyrubs, but she scoots away when her person stands up. What a story Sorley has to tell! If only he could speak Human. His name means “Summer Traveler” and, well, we guess he was! Sorley has a tan, wiry coat and is about a year old. He came to us from a fellow agency who nursed him to his current excellent health --- after he spent the first nine months of his life fending for himself in the world with his mother. Thin, covered in mange and wary of people three months ago, Sonny is now a handsome, healthy and social 12-pound Chihuahua/Terrier mix. His mother has been placed, and now Sorley is looking for his own forever home. He is leash- and crate-trained, rides well in a car and gets along great with other dogs. So matted down upon intake, Justice had to be sedated in order to be shaved down completely. This smart, sweet boy, a 3 year old and about 23lbs., had been living on his own for quite some time, fending for himself the best that he could. Mr. Guido of Arezzo has come a long way to get to SDR. This 2 year old, 13 pound Lhasa Apso mix recently arrived after a large scale breeding operation in Missouri shut down. His name means “Little Horse,” but, in case you haven't noticed, Eachan is a little DOG – a tri-color Chihuahua mix, in fact, who tips the scales at about 10 pounds. Eachan is estimated at 5 years old. He came to us from an area county animal shelter, after being picked up as a stray and with a badly broken rear leg. He managed to hobble around pretty well on three legs, but SmallDog Rescue and our vets stepped in to repair his shattered leg. Despite his injury, this little guy maintains a friendly, trusting, sunny disposition. He’s on the mend but will be in recovery for several weeks. SmallDog Rescue does NOT shy away from injured dogs, but their medical bills can be very expensive. This scruffy, smiling little dude is Cypress, or “Cy” for short. Cy is a lucky dog and he knows it! He’s a 6-year-old, 12-pound terrier mix that came to us from a high-kill animal control. He likes everyone he meets and is always ready for any fun that may come his way. Cypress has a classic terrier personality with that classic terrier zest for life. 12 years old, 33 lbs Wally is a darling little old man who just is so happy to be loved. He wiggles his whole body in happiness every time you say his name. He just wants to be loved and loves to be brushed. Wally is completely blind but his little beagle nose is working overtime and he gets around just fine. When he smells something he can find it in record time, long before my seeing dogs ever have a clue! He is very smart. Wally needs a home without a high deck and with very few steps b/c he has a little arthritis in his rear end. Otherwise, Wally is in great shape. We did his senior bloodwork and it was great. We also had to remove his eyes due to glaucoma. Now that that is over, Wally is feeling absolutely wonderful. No pain just a wonderful life. Give him food, treats and a soft dog bed and Wally is all yours!

This sweet, shy little one is Gloria Coates, a tiny gray Toy Poodle. Gloria is 5 years old and weighs all of 7 pounds. She was in a group of dogs turned over to us when a large scale commercial breeding operation closed its doors. Gloria was one of the shyer pups in the group. In foster care, she is slowly learning about living life as something other than a “working girl.” She has figured out the joy of bellyrubs, but she scoots away when her person stands up. She loves the company of other dogs, and, thanks to her foster siblings, is learning the ropes about simply being a dog. She still has a lot to learn about being on a leash and is easily startled by new situations or sounds, but her foster mom has begun catching glimpses of Gloria’s playful side. a long legged boy, who weighs in at a slender 20 pounds or so. He’s great on a leash and enjoys long walks. Zack also enjoys chew toys of any kind and plays with them like a puppy. Zach enjoys having his ears scratched or an occasional back massage, and will sit close by on the sofa, though he's not much of a lap dog. It doesn't take long for Zach to bond with his family and quickly become a little shadow! No cats for Zach, please!
