To find out where and when our adoption days will be held please look at our Calendar of Adoption Days . Each rescue group holds independent adoptions at different locations, so be sure to visit the adoption site of the rescue group that is the holder of the pet you're interested in. However, please realize that not all of the fosters can always be accommodated at each of our adoptions, so if you see a pet you are especially interested in, submit an online application. For information on a pending application, please click on the "contact" link on the specific dog, then click on the "e-mail" link. All applicants will be screened and an adoption fee is required. Pet Orphans' rescue groups do not ship or adopt pets out-of-state and many rescue groups prefer to adopt only in the metro Atlanta area.Please consider participating in our Pet Guardians program , a way to help sponsor an orphan pet of your choice.

This sweet girl is Addison Montgomery. She is a 2 year old Corgi mix and weighs 22lbs. Addison is a little unsure these days - she didn't arrive in the best shape and is still learning to trust. Underneath the fear and poor coat is a sweet little dog that wants so much to be loved. Addy will need an adul-only home or one with older children.

This pretty girl is Princess G. She is a young adult and weighs about 35lbs. She is a pointer/lab mix of some kind. She has been a great mom to her puppies Brownie 2 and Batman 2. She has great house manners, is very sweet, and loves people. She is good with other dogs. Princess G is a natural athelete. She is a patient, gentle girl that does great with the dogs and children in her foster home. She is quiet and loves affection and attention.

Gregory House is a true, blue, rescue dog! He is a one eyed beagle mix and he doesn't quite have two whole ears. House is a true rescue dog because he is so sweet, and so friendly, that even though he isn't going to be winning any beauty contests, the people at the animal control where he arrived knew he deserved a chance. House loves people and loves attention! He is a fun boy. Gregory house is 2 years old and weighs 20lbs.

3 years old, 40 lbs - Brandy is a sweet girl who just needs to be loved. She has lived outside in a pen all of her life and has had several sets of puppies. She is now being turned over to rescue after much pressuring to find her and her daughter wonderful indoor homes. Brandy is very smart and was totally housebroken almost immediately. She loves poeple, is great with kids and listens well. Brandy's recently got out and watched her sister get killed by a car so she is timid of vehicles. Oilily, or “Lily” as her foster family calls her, is one of over 300 dogs rescued from the Jackson County Cruelty Case. Lily has bonded easily with her foster mom, and wants nothing more than to be with her people. Lily will require some socialization in her new home, but has a head start on learning to live with people. This sweet girl is eight years old, and weighs about 10 pounds. Lily will need an all adult home to help her come out of her shell. We do not recommend any of the Cruelty Case dogs for first time or inexperienced dog guardians.

This sweet looking guy is Joe Williams. He is a Chihuahua/Jack Russell Terrier mix. He is one year old and weighs 15lbs. Joe arrived at the animal control with his collar embedded in his neck. Needless to say, he wasn’t treated very well where ever he came from, so he’s learning to trust again. No small children for Joe Williams.

Shenango is a purebred beagle. She has a brown and white coat and is about 8 years old. Shenango weighs 30lbs. She is a very shy girl that will need a lot of time and patience to help her come out of her shell. She is doing well in her foster home where she's finally learning that her foster mom is her friend! She will ask for ear scratches and loves to chase squirrels. No small children for Shenango.

Chelsea is a beautiful black mouth cur mix (with a cute underbite), 45 lbs., who is about four years old. She is a very smart dog who make a wonderful and loyal companion. She was found living behind a dumpster off of a busy highway, and, despite her living conditions, she is a healthy, energetic girl, who loves to fetch a ball or rope, and is very good with children. She also loves to go jogging or walking with her human.Chelsea loves belly rubs and is very energetic. She needs someone who has time to give her lots of exercise (she can jog several miles, play ball for hours, etc.), and she needs a fenced-in yard. She is not good with cats or small dogs, but does fine with larger dogs She is housebroken, is spayed and has had all of her shots.

I’m a 1yr old American Bulldog mix (45 lb) who has not had a great life up ‘til now. The person who had me before was observed opening the car door and dumping me onto a country road. I ran after the car begging for the ride home, but I was ignored. I wandered into someone’s yard and the person living there hit me w/a board and demanded I go away! I was frightened and wandering, when a nice lady took me into her home. I’m very playful since I am still just a puppy but I love quiet moments, too, while I lie at the lady’s feet, so I have a calm side as well. I’m very sweet and get along well w/other dogs and people. Chance is approx. 3 yr. male Wire-hair Terrier mix (Wire-haired PointingGriffon). He weighs about 45-50lbs. Chance was rescued from the streets ofAtlanta, wound up in a local shelter, and a rescuer picked him to live inher foster home. Chance has an adorable personality and is full of energy,yet settles down easily inside. He would be a fabulous running partner (hecan run like the wind!), once he understands he is to go at the slow pace ofa human! He needs a 6' fence or more because he is so smart and capable of"sailing" over a shorter fence. Chance is housebroken, crate-trained andgreat w/other dogs. He adores people and meets all strangers withexuberance! He will require a bit of obedience training (he already knows"sit" & "stay") in order to understand that he should not pull on leash.andhe might be too strong for small children. This adorable puppy is Batman 2! Born on New Year’s Eve, he’s now 9 weeks old and weighs about 12lbs (3/6/08). Ellie Riggs is a special lady that has is new to SDR but has been waiting for a home for a while. Before Ellie arrived here, she sat at an animal control for months, being passed over for a home because she is a little black dog and isn’t one of those fancy “puppies” so many people seemed to want. She may be 10 years old, but she’s got a lot of life in her with the energy of a younger dog. She is a happy dog that loves people and attention. Ellie is a tall Dachshund mix and she weighs 18lbs. Kramer is a fortunate fellow. After 6 months of living alone in a house with 3 other dogs after their guardian died and being fed by the neighbors when they could do it, he was finally turned over to rescue. Kramer is really enjoying getting to interact with people again, he was loved and taken care of until his guardian passed away. Kramer is 9 years old and weighs 12lbs, he has a tan coat. He is a friendly boy that loves attention! Kramer will need an adult-only home now and in the future.

Rita Hayworth is an adorable Beagle/Collie mix that came to SDR from a local animal control. She has a beautiful tri-color coat. Rita is 2 years old and weighs 23lbs. She is a sweet girl that is very loyal and affectionate to her special people. Rita can get a little shy in 'social situations' so she'll need a patient home to help her when its time to go out on the town. At home, however, she is a fun, happy, dog. She loves to play with toys and chew on nylabones. And most of all, loves to romp in the fenced-in yard and then snuggle with her foster parents for a nice, restful nap. She'd make a great jogging partner! No small children for Rita Hayworth but she would be good with older children and would love a doggie pal.

Sugar Pug Fairy has gone through a lot in her life. Bred again and again by her guardian, then dumped at a vet’s office to be KILLED when she could no longer produce, she was rescued and spent a year in a loving home. Unfortunately, for reasons completely beyond her control, she now needs a loving home again. Sugar Pug Fairy is about 13 years old, but she is still a classic Pug! 5 years old, 41 lbs - Kelly has a wonderful spirit. Kelly She whines and dances pawing at the air and wiggling her butt when she is happy. Kelly is also too smart for her own good! She lived on her own in a wooded area for 3 years! It took me one year to catch her because she is so smart. She would come to see me when she heard me bringing food but would never get more then 20 feet from me. I finally outsmarted her and brought her in from the cold. One the way home the day I caught her,she gave me kisses in the car. She is very good, well-behaved, housebroken and listens well. She just wants to be loved. She will require a 6 foot privacy fence and people who will love her and never let this happen to her again. She is still a little timid and will need someone with patience and another dog to help her adjust to yet a new home. She is well worth all the time, just look at that smile . Carla is an approx. 1 year old female Shepherd/Husky weighing 40-45lbs. She was a stray in Habersham Co. and was taken to the shelter. She was a favorite of the shelter director there and we can see why! We believe she is mostly Husky w/o all the Husky “concerns” (escape artist, aloof, stubborn, etc). She talks like a Husky w/that beautiful “woo-woo” sound. Carla is a delightfully fun dog who adores playing w/all other dogs from puppies to big dogs twice her size! Meet Hickey Freeman, one of the sweetest, most loving dogs to enter SDR's program in quite some time. And boy, is there a lot to love when it comes to Hickey! Weighing at over 50lbs., Hickey is FAT. But, his foster home has him on a very strict diet and is working to get him down to 35lbs, a much healthier weight. Hickey is a beagle/basset hound mix, about 6-7 years old, and has a voice that any hound lover would swoon over! This adorable gentleman has perfect house manners, loves to play with other dogs, and does great with children. While he will never be a long legged supermodel, Hickey's charming personality is sure to win over anyone who can look past his current state of chubbiness.

Zanella has one of those stories that makes you shake your head. She came into an animal control, picked up stray/lost, and when the guardians were contacted, they came down, saw she had been shaved because of the matted fur she had, and decided not to bother bringing her back home. My collar was so tight that I have scarring on my throat. When my guardian moved, he left me behind on the chain with no food and green, stagnant water. There was a large, tennis ball sized tumor hanging from my hip that was open and weeping, drawing flies in the stiffling summer heat. I am so friendly and outgoing though, you'd never know that I had such a sad existence for most of my life. I am in a loving foster home now, but I can't stay there too much longer. They are moving out of the country soon and I will need a forever home. I get along fine with most other dogs and older children. Please give me a chance so that I may be content for the last half of my life.

What a beautiful girl! Sarah Vaughan is our latest “pure” Mystery Mix! One of a kind, she is white with grey here and there. She is one year old and weighs 33lbs. Sarah is a little shy but also very friendly. She does well with other dogs.

Chili is 5 years old and 55lbs. She smiles a lot (as you can see in the pic) and she has really pretty eyes and a thick coat. I'm pretty sure she is part Airedale. I rescued her as a puppy, and she grew up to be a really cool dog with a sweet disposition. She has an interesting personality -- very shy in certain situations, but also very sharp and territorial (a great watchdog!). She loves people once she gets to know them (which doesn't take long) but she will let you know if a stranger approaches. She loves playing chase with a toy, and she knows how to sit, stay and shake hands. She has been both an inside and outside dog, but has been outside in a large fenced yard for over a year. She is spayed and completely up to date on her shots. She is very healthy and has been fed IAMS dog food all her life. The one thing she is terrified of is baths, and I mean it is almost impossible to bathe her. We use the waterless bath sprays and a brush to clean her, which she doesn't mind. Our other little dog does not get along with Chili, so we have to keep them seperate, but Chili has played well with dogs in the past. She is definately not cat friendly. I think it would suit her best to be an only dog, but she's definately got enough love and energy to go around!

2 1/2 years old, 34 lbs- Mazie is the best of both worlds. She is loving and cuddly and thinks she is 12 lbs. She is playful and active and thinks she is 100lbs when playing with other dogs. Mazie can run and play tug of war with the best of them but mostly she loves to lay on her bed and chew on her toys or bones. She listens very well and is very very smart. She will run if let loose though so a secure fenced area or active person is needed. Mazie will do best in a home without small children. She likes to herd them and will treat little ones like doggie friends. All dogs are vaccinated, heartworm and fecal negative, microchipped and altered prior to adoption. Barbour is a Schnoodle – a Poodle and Scnhauzer mix. Barbour is 8 years old and weighs 13lbs. He was found as a stray, his coat completely matted. He has probably lived on his own for a while, fending for himself. He’s re-learning that people are here to help and care for him, but he’s coming around quickly. Barbour is a friendly boy. 2 yrs, 40 lb - Sugar is a sweetheart and the perfect size at only 40 lbs! She loves people nad other dogs and is great with everyone she meets. She has not had a great start in life. Although she was loved, her guardians kept in a pen outside and did not spay her. She has had 2 litters of puppies. We now have her though and she is now HOUSEBROKEN (i took less then 2 days!). She is very smart and just needs someone to take care of her like she deserves. All dogs are spayed/ fully vetted and microchipped.

2 1/2 years old, 41 lbs - Winston is a doll baby. He loves everyone he meets, especially kids, and gets along well with of all dogs as long as they are not aggressive towards him. He loves to wiggle up and get lots of pets and butt scratches. He loves to play ball and chase with the other dogs. He loves to wrestle and roll too. Winston also enjoys laying around chewing on a rope or bone and watching television. All he wants is to be loved and close to his person. Winston is small and precious and minds very well. He will require a tall fenced yard OR a active person to walk him. He will bolt out the door if given a chance so he needs someone to work with him on this and can not go to a home with kids who will hold the door open. He is GREAT with kids of all ages! Mamie Smith’s guardian died about 2 years ago. A family member took her in, but their dog was aggressive to her. This sweet ol’ Cocker Spaniel had to live outside for 2 years where her coat suffered from not being maintained. The family that tried to keep her decided to have her KILLED but the vet didn’t want to – Mamie was still loving life, even though hers hadn’t been the best recently. SDR decided her last home should be one that loves, wants her, and will keep her inside and pamper her, so here she is and she’s ready and waiting for that special home to come along. She’s now 14 years old and weighs 20lbs. She had to be completely shaved save for her face and the bottom of her legs, but behind that pitiful hairdo is a wonderful girl ready to put her past behind her and retire to her dream home.

2 years old, 44 lbs - Betty is such a gentle soul and full of personality!. When she looks at you, you can see straight into her heart and soul. All Betty wants is to be secure and loved. She is so cute, she whines when she needs to go outside, she give a soft little "buuurrr" with her nose in the air when she is happy and wants your attenton. She will come up to you and lay her head and shoulders in your lap while keeping her feet on the ground. How she twist like that I will never know. Sometimes she will chase your feet when you walk by just to get you to play. You just can't help but laugh at her. She is a little shy at first but with some sweet talk and lots of love she is quickly yours. She is great with other dogs, especially loves little ones and loves little kids. Handsome Jenkins is a young (1-2 year) Pitbull who was dumped out on a farm.He wore an old ragged collar and a choke chain that almost had to be cut off(obviously, he had grown in to these old collars). The older couple whotook him in did not want a dog and threatened to take him to their veryremote county "pound" where he would have been KILLED or worse (possiblychained up, bred, and/or used in fighting). A foster home took him and hashad him completely vetted including a microchip. He is in good shape now,but still a little thin. Jenkins walks everyday w/3 other dogs on leash andbehaves very well w/these other dogs. He loves the company of a 10 mos.male puppy as well as a young female husky mix in the foster home. Ofcourse, Jenkins is a strong dog and needs some obedience training, but hehas been a really good boy in the beginning stages of his foster life.Jenkins listens and can be easily corrected w/a firm "no". He has evenindicated he would do well w/kitties. He was interested but finally ignoredthe kitty in order to do some exploring. Lots really GOOD to say about thisvery nice dog! Rita Hayworth is an adorable Beagle/Collie mix that came to SDR from a local animal control. She has a beautiful tri-color coat. Rita is 2 years old and weighs 23lbs. She is a sweet girl that is very loyal and affectionate to her special people. Rita can get a little shy in 'social situations' so she'll need a patient home to help her when its time to go out on the town. At home, however, she is a fun, happy, dog. She loves to play with toys and chew on nylabones. And most of all, loves to romp in the fenced-in yard and then snuggle with her foster parents for a nice, restful nap. 7 months old, Chaz is 16 lbs, Petie is 186 lbs - both will be 25 when grown. Petie and Chaz are great little boys! They are inseparateable brothers. They are rarely more then 10 feet apart. They play together and lay together and love to fetch. Petie is more doxie in body and personality. He is the more hard headed one and has taken longer to train. He listens well but has just started coming when called. He is such a love though and just wants his toys and something to chew on. Chaz is the taller one with the white chest. He is the one who pays more attention, gives kisses, sits and shakes on command. Both boys are a riot and wonderfully smart. They run into their crate when told to get in bed. I only crate them when gone and they sleep in the bed at night! They love to get under the blanket! Both boys also love fruits and veggies. Give them a banana peel and they are appeased for an hour! Chaz's favorite is strawberries. Petie love oranges. Fruits and veggies are good for dogs (no grapes!!!!)

Hawk, a beagle mix, arrived at SDR terrified and covered in untreated mange that was very uncomfortable for him. Hawk is one of those special dogs that understood that his life had changed for the better. Within a day he went from frightened to happy to be safe and sound. He started giving kisses to the people that rescued him from the place that let him get sick and scared. He knew these new people were looking out for him and he wanted to be in their company. Hawk is still a little wary at first, but he is quick to realize when a person wants to be friends and is happy to learn to trust them. Hawk is only 1 year old and will weigh about 25lbs when he’s at a healthy weight. No small children for Hawk.

5 1/2 months old, 33lbs now, 50-55 as an adult -Radar is an energetic loving little boy. He is all puppy and all boy but he is VERY smart and eager to make you happy!! He still has the puppy look on his face at all times and everything is so new and exciting. He LOVES the water in the puppy pool or a puddle! He even jumped in the bathtub to go after the water when I was bathing another dog! He loves to play and will run and tumble over his own legs like goofy puppies do. Radar knows how to sit to be petted or for treats. He also listens very well. Radar will need a home with a high fenced yard or someone active to really work with him on leash. The coolest thing about Radar are his light Amber Colored Eyes and his unbreakable spirit!

5 1/2 months old, 40lbs now, 50-55 as an adult - Nikky is a sweetheart. She gives kisses and loves to play outside. She also loves the baby pool! Nikky is very sweet and just wants to be loved . Oilily, or “Lily” as her foster family calls her, is one of over 300 dogs rescued from the Jackson County Cruelty Case. Lily has bonded easily with her foster mom, and wants nothing more than to be with her people. Lily will require some socialization in her new home, but has a head start on learning to live with people. This sweet girl is eight years old, and weighs about 10 pounds. Taffy is about 2 years old with unique golden brindle markings - a beautiful Lab mix refugee from New Orleans. She weighs about 40lbs. When one of the temporary shelters closed in New Orleans they had to send the animals elsewhere, so Taffy was transported to Atlanta along w/47 other dogs, a few cats and a pony. Taffy and her siblings were in dreadful condition. They required months to return to health but are grateful they survived. She is good w/other dogs and is friendly w/people. She is smart and would like to learn. You would love the way she looks directly at you when you speak to her. She remains a bit shy but warms up w/a little affection and praise. Auggie is a 40 lb. 11 mos. old male Shepherd mix who came from a rotten homenear Cartersville. His guardian barely fed her "outside" dogs. Of course the4 adult dogs multiplied, so neighbors stepped in to feed the dogs over thefence. The adults fought for food leaving the kind neighbors hesitant to goinside to help. Once the puppies became 6-8 weeks old, they struggled forfood, too. Finally, the adult dogs tore into a couple of the babies, and theneighbors took them out to safety. Auggie got the worst of it. His front legwas shattered. It took a couple weeks to get him nutritionally well enoughso he could have repair surgery to his leg (a steel pin was inserted intothe bone). He has grown into a very sweet, gentle pokey puppy who adoresattention but remains shy. He has eyes that draw anyone over to speak tohim. If you are considering making an addition to your family, you mightmake room for this little fellow - he would be worth it! He is great w/otherdogs and cats and loves to go "walkies" on leash. Gibson is a handsome buff and red purebred Cocker Spaniel that SDR rescued from a high kill rural animal control. Gibson is about 6 years old and weighs about 30lbs. He is a happy, energetic fellow who is thrilled at his new opportunity to find a loving, caring home. Gibson is mostly blind due to retinal degeneration, he most likely still sees shadows and shades of light. Luckily, dogs who are blind adjust very very quickly, and live normal happy lives. Gibson too, he is doing wonderfully in his foster home where the other dogs and his foster parents have been kind enough not to mention to Gibson that he has poor eyesight. He gets around like a trooper and loves the company of the other dogs and the affection of his foster parents. He learned the layout of the house in days flat, thank you very much! 5 1/2 months old, 40lbs now, 50-55 as an adult - Paris is a sweet wonderfully spirited little angel. She loves to play with toys and romp and roll with her doggie friends. She is very loving too. She will come up and put her head on your lap for attention. She has not had anything in her short little life. She still jumps up for attention when happy and she doesn't know any tricks but she is desperate to learn and be loved! When she curls up in a ball to sleep she is so precious. Paris knows how to sit for treats and walk on a leash and we are working on her to learn more.

Meet Hickey Freeman, one of the sweetest, most loving dogs to enter SDR's program in quite some time. And boy, is there a lot to love when it comes to Hickey! Weighing at over 50lbs., Hickey is FAT. But, his foster home has him on a very strict diet and is working to get him down to 35lbs, a much healthier weight. Hickey is a beagle/basset hound mix, about 6-7 years old, and has a voice that any hound lover would swoon over! This adorable gentleman has perfect house manners, loves to play with other dogs, and does great with children. While he will never be a long legged supermodel, Hickey's charming personality is sure to win over anyone who can look past his current state of chubbiness.

So matted down upon intake, Justice had to be sedated in order to be shaved down completely. This smart, sweet boy, a 3 year old and about 23lbs., had been living on his own for quite some time, fending for himself the best that he could. Fortunately, he is coming around to 'domestic' life and is trusting his foster mom more each and every day. Justice will need a quiet, adult only home. SmallDog Rescue now considers Justice to be a permanent foster dog. His foster family is committed to loving and caring for him, however long that might be and SmallDog Rescue is committed to paying for his medical care, as expensive as it may become. Sadie loves to run, play ball, go for walks, and get chest rubs. She is about 2 years old, has been spayed, housebroken, and current on all shots. She loves other dogs, but is protective of HER things. She can be bossy, but is never mean. She would be very happy in an active home with a runner/hiker.
