Pet Orphans

Large Dogs for Adoption

To find out where and when our adoption days will be held please look at our Calendar of Adoption Days . Each rescue group holds independent adoptions at different locations, so be sure to visit the adoption site of the rescue group that is the holder of the pet you're interested in. However, please realize that not all of the fosters can always be accommodated at each of our adoptions, so if you see a pet you are especially interested in, submit an online application. For information on a pending application, please click on the "contact" link on the specific dog, then click on the "e-mail" link. All applicants will be screened and an adoption fee is required. Pet Orphans' rescue groups do not ship or adopt pets out-of-state and many rescue groups prefer to adopt only in the metro Atlanta area.

Please consider participating in our Pet Guardians program , a way to help sponsor an orphan pet of your choice.

Katie

  • Katie
  • adult female
  • Yellow Labrador Retriever (Shepherd)

3 years old, 54 lbs - Katie is playful and active but also likes to just hang out. When her doggie friends are being rambunctious she is right in the middle but when inside, she loves to lay around and chew on her toys and bones. She just needs someone to spend time working with her. She needs a high fence because she can jump a short one. She listens very well and loves to learn new things. She is great with other dogs and but tiny ones under 15 lbs are too small to be around her. She steps on them, then when they cry she thinks they are toys! Katie has never had the home she deserves. She needs someone to teach her tricks and work with her on leash. She needs a home with no children under 10 b/c she has never been around small children kids. Katie is a great smiling loving girl who needs you!All dogs are Spayed/neutered, vaccinated, heartworm negative and microchipped. More photos, history and application at www.forgottenpaws.com. TROOPER

  • TROOPER
  • young female
  • Black Labrador Retriever (Mix)

My pet, Trooper, is a 80 lb Black Lab mix approximately 5 years old. Myaunt found her on the side of the road and I took her in when she wasabout 4-6 months old. She has been spayed. She has been boarded for a few months now. She doesn't care for otherfemales, but is ok with another male. She would probably be ideal as aone pet household. She knows commands such as sit, shake, lay down andstay. She pulls on a leash so I use a pinch collar to walk her. Shereally respects an underground fence. She is a beautiful dog. • Australian Shepherd (Hound)

4 yrs, 56 lbs but short and solid- Do you want a nice couch potato to love? Lady is just for you. Lady just loves laying around on the deck, in the yard in the sun, and on her special chair. She is a very sweet girl who has been abused and is scared of brooms and loud noises. She is very sensitive and thinks she is trouble all the time when actually she does nothing wrong. Lady listens well and loves to be loved. She will put her butt in the air and turn to look at you wiggling a little wanting scratches. She needs a quiet retirement home who will love her endlessly. It will take her a little time to get adjusted to a new home but she will flourish when she find that special place. Lady also needs a diet, she has gone from skinny scrawny to fat and happy! Jenny

  • Jenny
  • adult female
  • Coonhound (Labrador Retriever)

2 1/2 years old, about 50 lbs - What a happy go lucky girl! Jenny is such a sweetheart. Too prove it, she dances happily and is great with the ferrets in her foster home. I think she thinks they are some sort of strange puppies. Jenny is always wiggling her body and smiling with her eyes. Jenny loves to play with her doggie friends or lay on her dog bed and chew on a toy. She is very young at heart yet she has not had a good start. She is a little hand shy at first but once she trusts you, you had better shut the bathroom door or she's coming in too. When Jenny wants your attention she will stand back and wiggle around making puppy noises until you look at her and ask her what she wants. She will then run to her food or water or the door or maybe just to you for scratches behind her ears. She is not a barker but when she does bark she has a little bit of the hound sound to it but more like a regular dog. Good with Dogs, Cats, Kids and Ferrets! All dogs are Spayed/neutered, vaccinated, heartworm negative, microchipped, crate trained, housebroken. See more photos, history and Apply at www.forgottenpaws.com. Adoptions in GA only

Barney

  • Barney
  • adult male
  • Golden Retriever (Shepherd)

3 years old, 56 lbs - Barney is a very smart boy and has learned so much since coming to us. When we got him, he could already sit and shake but now he stays, and doesn't chase the cats anymore. Barney is wonderfully loving and if you would let him, he would sit in your lap! He loves everyone he meets and is good with other dogs, NO cats. He loves his squeaky toys, is very food motivated for training, loves to be hugged and totally housebroken. Barney needs a home who will love him, brush him, and give him lots of outside time. He is good on a leash too. Although Barney LOVES it outside, he also wants you with him out there! He is an awesome dog! All dogs are fully vaccinated, heartworm negative, neutered and microchipped. AzuraSkye

  • AzuraSkye
  • Senior Female
  • Siberian Husky

Azura Skye, like many senior dogs, found herself homeless when her guardian could no longer care for her. No arrangements were made for her care when the time came that her guardian could no longer do so. Fortunately for Azura, she was saved by a rescue group. She is a beautiful purebred Husky who needs socialization and a retirement home. If you are retired and interested in adopting a dog, please consider a dog who has earned retirement, as you have.

Azura Skye is considered a permanent foster due to her age and medical condition. Her foster family is committed to loving and caring for Azure for the rest of her life, however long that might be. SmallDog Rescue is committed to paying for her medical care, as expensive as it may become. If you would like to send a contribution to the care of Azura Skye, please send it to: SmallDog Rescue at P. O. Box 888570, Atlanta, GA 30356 for Azura Skye.

CHANCE

  • CHANCE
  • young female
  • American Bulldog (Mix)

Her name is chance..she is an American bulldog mix. She is current on all vaccines, she is spayed and we put her about 2 1/2 years old. She is a very sweet girl and loves to be outside so she would need a fenced in backyard. We call her a wiggle butt because when she gets excited she doesn't just wag her tail she wiggles her whole backside. But we love her to death and hope we find her a great home.

JD

  • JD
  • baby male
  • Black Labrador Retriever (Golden Retriever)

1 year in January 2008, 60 lbs -JD has a great spirit just like a black lab but not as active. JD loves to play but he is so laid back and has always been that way. Most black labs are goofy and run 90 miles an hour. I have never seen JD run above an interested trot. He is very wiggly, happy and loving with his foster mom but he hides from strangers. He will need a home who can work with him and give him time to get settled. He will need a fenced yard and hopefully another dog to help him. JD loves other dogs, has never seen a cat and is curious but timid of children. He is well worth the time though! All dogs are Spayed/neutered, vaccinated, heartworm negative and microchipped. LEXI

  • LEXI
  • young female
  • German Shepherd (Mix)

Lexi was rescued from a neighborhood, cold, wet, muddy and scared. Her foster mom fears she didn’t have much attention early on in her life. She cowers as if she has been spoken very sternly most of her life. She is very friendly once she gets to know you and she is house broken and crate trained. She looks like she will be a good sized girl and will need a fenced yard in her forever home. She gets along with her foster moms cats and dogs, her perfect forever home would have a companion animal in the home for her to play with. She might do best with a stay at home parent to help her get over her fear of being left alone. Are you the right forever home for Lexi? Fill out your application today and make a date to come and meet her.

Cocoa

  • Cocoa
  • adult male
  • Yellow Labrador Retriever (Shepherd)

2 years old, 64 lbs - Cocoa is so sweet and smart. He listens to everything his foster mom says as if he understands every word. He loves his toys and will play fetch, but only for a few throws then he plays keep away. He is great with children and other dogs but can be shy of strangers. When strangers approach he will tuck his tail and lay his ears flat back and sit down. Once he smells you and you talk to him though, he brings you his toys. He is crate trained and housebroken but still needs to be crated when you are not home b/c he is still young and curious. Cocoa has always had a fenced yard but if an active person who walks alot wants him then we will consider it. If you have children, a fenced yard is required. Ginger

  • Ginger
  • adult female
  • Australian Shepherd (Labrador Retriever)

4yrs, 57 lbs - Ginger is an amazing dog. If you're looking for a smart and loyal Aussie, then look no further. Ginger knows sit, down, stay (get comfy for a while, b'c no other command is coming), heel, wait (stay still & pay attention b'c another command is coming soon), drop, fetch, off, catch, leave it (leave a treat or anything alone no matter how close it is to her), & watch (look at you). Ginger has been trained with and without a clicker. She's a lightening fast learner with a clicker. With a clicker she learned to open and close doors in 20 minutes with her nose. She's fairly low maintenance for an Aussie and needs only 10 minutes of mental work a day (i.e. tricks & training). The rest of the day she wants to follow you around the house to be petted and loved on. She's trained to sit or down in order to be petted (no begging or jumping). She adores being brushed & will sit still for as long as you will brush her. Ginger is loyal and protective of her pack. She's a dominant female, so a home with no other dogs is best. Cats are fine. A fenced yard is required so she can stretch her legs. History: Ginger's family is unable to keep her due to the son's terrible allergies

  • young male
  • Pit Bull Terrier (Pure)

Hello, my name is Samson! I am a year old red nose pit bull and I am a veryhandsome little boy (approx. 70lbs!). I love to play and have a good timewith everyone I meet. My favorite thing in the whole world is a good headscratch. I have been known to fall asleep sitting up when my foster Momstarts scratching my head. I also like to cuddle on the couch with anyonewho does not mind my loud snores and piggy noises. I would make a greataddition to any family. I already know how to sit and have the cratetraining thing down pat. So, if you are looking for a wonderful baby boy -that's me, Samson. I am neutered, had all vaccinations, dewormed, andmicrochipped. I'm also heartworm negative and on heartworm preventative. (Samson was "dumped" at a local shelter because his guardian didn't want theresponsibilities of a dog after all - it was the shelter's final plea forSamson, when this rescuer took him in.) Please email veggiebev@bellsouth.netfor more information about this handsome boy.

  • young male
  • Bloodhound (Basset Hound)

Meet Shrek...a Blood Hound/Basset mix who is a giant hunk of love (approx. 90lbs) on little short legs. Shrek is an exceptionally good boy who gets along with all other dogs, people and kids.
