To find out where and when our adoption days will be held please look at our Calendar of Adoption Days . Each rescue group holds independent adoptions at
different locations, so be sure to visit the adoption site of the rescue group that is the holder of the pet you are interested in. However, please
realize that not all of the fosters can always be accommodated at each
of our adoptions, so if you see a pet you are especially interested in,
submit an online application.

All applicants will be screened and an adoption fee is required.
Pet Orphans' rescue groups do not ship or adopt pets out-of-state and many
rescue groups prefer to adopt only in the metro Atlanta area.

A Special Note: If you are considering adopting a kitten, please take a moment and consider that the life span of a cat is 15-22 years, and that a kitten will stay a kitten for a few months, and then becomes a cat forever! That cute little furball will grow fast. So please consider our adult cats!!
We also want to tell you that some people think our adoption fees are "high". While it is true that many people give away cats and kittens "free to a good home", those cats and kittens typically have had little, if any, veterinary care in their lifetimes. Our cats and kittens have been tested for Feline Leukemia/AIDS, spayed/neutered, vaccinated, dewormed, and treated for fleas before adoption. We must pay for these veterinary services and products, and one call to your local vet should convince you that our fee represents a fraction of what you would pay for the services and products our cats and kittens receive before they are adopted.
Hi!! I’m Max!!! I see your looking for a kitty to share your life with . I too am looking for a human companion (s). Let me tell you about me . . . . I am quite a talker, have to keep you informed of what I see out the window and whatever I am looking at. Not to brag, but I’m quite svelte, long white whiskers, large gold eyes, mostly black with white tipped feet and tail, also known as tuxedo. I enjoy lying about on my side surveying my kingdom. I love to stretch out my stately frame and have my long stomach gently rubbed and especially under my chin. I enjoy others of the animal kingdom – I have lived with my sister and brother since birth and my rescue by my foster mom and have even come to love those inferior subjects known as “dogs.” We play and bat at each other around, share the same bed and interests – mainly FOOD. We chase each other around the room and up and down the cat condo. One of my favorite is to watch the water go down the toilet!!! I am used to a quiet place and need time to adjust to your home. I love adult humans and need a buddy kitty (see my sister or brother HINT, HINT!!). For the rest of my info, I’ll turn you over to my “mom.”Max and his siblings (Dolly and Sparky) were rescued from an abandoned home and have had all their necessary shots and have been neutered. They need to be adopted into a home with either their sibling (Dolly or Sparky) or another kitty or dog that could be their companion. They need time for an adjustment. They live in adult only home and get along very well with my two Italian greyhounds. Max is approximately 1 year old.

Please don't let his FIV+ status prevent you from the opportunity to bond with a truly special soul. There is a lot of misinformation out there about FIV, but we are NOT dangerous to people or other cats, and this is NOT a highly transmittable disease. He can, and likely will, live a long life. Being FIV+ just means that he needs to be treated right away if he gets a cold or any other illness, because his immune system isn't as great as other cats'. Date of birth: 4/1/2004. Hi! Meet Dreamsicle one of our Gwinnett 11. He came in completely feral. After a while he decided that what Furkids had to offer him was much better than life on the streets. Slowly he came around and began to trust our volunteers that were caring for him. Then one day he decided that the chin rubs we offered him were the best in the world and he became the total love bug that we all knew he could be, as orange tabbies are the best lover boys! Date of birth: approx 5/16/2004. Kaylaa is one of four kitties rescued from a outdoor feral colony site, when just weeks old. She was the first to be captured and convinced one of her sisters and her brother to join her in their new life as indoor kitties. A beautiful black and white tuxedo with white spats on all four feet with a distinctive double white marking on her nose allows her to be quickly identified from her two sisters, who are also tuxedos. She has discovered that being raised by a human as an indoor cat has the advantages of warm laps, regular meal times, and cat toys; which she rewards with a hearty purr and affection. She has the ability to move onto human laps with out disturbing the persons activity, but has shown some resistance to being moved off when the human has to take a bathroom break or such. Active and playful she would be best adopted to a household with a cat of nearly the same age.

Snickers is a very loving sweet torti cat that is approx 1.5 to two years of age. She gets along well with other cats and tolerates dogs. She is very well behaved, calm, clean and extremely loving. She gives big headbumps, loves to ride on your shoulder and simply can get held enough. She is very cautious with new people, hates to go to adoption events and simply wants her safe space and has attached herself deeply to her caretaker. She would do best in an adult only household. Date of birth: approx 5/1/05. Billie was found as a tiny lost kitten in a PetSmart parking lot but he's grown into a gorgeous, big sleek black leopard look-alike. Somewhat shy, he loves to lap-sit and be rubbed behind the ears. He gets along well with younger cats but tends to try to dominate other grown males, so he is a good candidate for a one-cat household in his forever home.

3 yrs old, KitKat showed up at a volunteers house one day and just started hanging around. She seems to get a kick out of sitting on the opposite side of the fence and meowing as loud as she can at the dogs! She is a very smart kitty. She knew where the animal lover lived. She loves to hang out on the front porch lounging in the chair, waiting for her food and daily pets. She loves to get her belly rubbed. Kit also walks with you like a dog. When you go for a walk around the nieghborhood, she follows behind. She will run past you and then stop and wait. Kit also goes to the windows at night where the lights are on and meows as loudly as she can. Kitkat needs a home where she can be safe, inside, away from the coyotes that have been spotted all over the county. She longs for human contact and comes running and meowing whenever you are outside. She is odd with dogs. She hisses and swips but then will go lay 3 feet from them. There are no other cats around so we do not know how she is with cats. She needs a forever or foster home ASAP!

Haven was rescued September 9 from Haven restaurant in Brookhaven where was fed fillet, halibut, and shrimp on the patio nightly. She is about 2 years old, but very petite for such a fine food connoisseur. She was skittish when approached at the restaurant, but within a day at the fosters house, she is jumping in people's lap and insists on everyone to rub her head. She absolutely loves being rescued! Charlie is a female mixed breed cat, with semi-long hair and a bushy tail - I think she has a little bit of Maine Coon in her.She is 10 lbs and healthy. Her shots are up to date and her teeth were cleaned in October. Her front paws are de-clawed.Charlie likes to be brushed daily - she especially loves to have her face, ears and chin brushed. She likes to play with any type of strings - ribbons, cat toys that have strings on a stick that she can chase after, and even the little twist ties that are used to fasten plastic bags...if you throw it, she will chase after it and play with it on her own.She is fairly vocal - she likes to talk and will let you know when she wants to be brushed or have her head rubbed. She doesn't like to be picked up too much, but she does like you to pet her head and ears. She really isn't a lap-cat, but on occasion, will sit on your lap - mainly if you're napping or sitting still. On the down-side, she's kind of a scaredy-cat, literally! She will hiss if she's frightened, and if you are petting her and she no longer wants to be rubbed on, she will let you know. She is ok with kids - not great, but not terrible. They scare her more than anything. Same goes for other pets. Her "brother" has been adopted already, but while they were tegether, he liked to play with her and she wanted no part of it. Of course, he was 8 lbs bigger than her, so that could have been the issue! My neighbor brings her little chihuahua over when she visits and Charlie doesn't bother her at all...she mainly ignores her. She hasn't been around large dogs but I imagine she would just stay away from them because they would scare her. Date of birth: Approx. 12/14/08 Oliver, an older male kitten with an injured leg, was found in the woods near a rural mobile home park by a 13 year old boy who wanted to help him. Since Oliver was an intact male, his mother wouldn't let him keep him in the house and the boy contacted his neighbor, for whom he did some petsitting, for assistance. The neighbor was a veterinarian and fellow cat lover who had Oliver combo tested, neutered and dewormed. Although it was clear the injury to his right elbow was old, she wanted an assessment by an orthopedic surgeon so she took him to Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine. The surgeon came back with an Xray film the showed Oliver's elbow had been shattered by a bb, pellet, or bullet. He recommended amputation of the leg or a fusion of the joint with surgical plates. Oliver's friend couldn't bear the thought of him never swatting a toy since it was clear from his eyes he was dying to play, so she told the surgeon to fuse the joint. The surgery was a success and Oliver can bear weight on his bad leg and is already happily swatting toys with it. Although he will always walk with a limp, he is no longer in pain. Throughout his ordeal and the 4 week confinement following his surgery, Oliver has remained a sweet, happy and loving boy. He will make a wonderful companion!Oliver must have an animal companion. Date of birth (Simon): 3/5/2007. Date of birth (Morgan): 5/14/2007. Simon (white tabby) is approx 24 weeks now. He was found by an elderly lady in Gray, Georgia a short time after he was hit by a car and has been nursed back to health. X-rays on 6/25/2007 showed that he had a healed fractured pelvis. The fractured pelvis has cased him to have a narrow rectum that will cause constipation/hard stool from time to time. To keep it in check, he gets a can of wet food everyday and Laxatone dose when his stools get hard which will help to prevent any problems. With 2 different vet opinions, no corrective surgery will be needed and there was no nerve damage in his rectum or legs. Simon is a very healthy and active little boy with no movement issues. Morgan (gray tux) was brought to us when someone found him stuck in between brick stairs, all alone with no mom or siblings to be found. Morgan and Simon became bonded buddies being the "orphans" of the group, even though they are 10 weeks apart. They will have to be adopted together. When Furkids volunteer Rene went to get Simon and put him in a carrier, Morgan got on top of the carrier and just cried and cried, so...what is one more? They both are very sweet, out-going, playful and love their foster’s other adult cats and their dog (30 lb. Beagle). They do excellent with children, as the both of the foster’s girls tote them around the house, so they are very used to be handled by children. They are like that old TV show "the odd couple". Furkids would like to thank Dara Johanson for sponsoring Sugar in memory of her beloved, Teil, who died of cancer on New Years Eve.Date of birth April 2006. Life did not start out nice for Sugar and Spice! A very kind couple, who had previously adopted a wonderful cat from Furkids, noticed Sugar, Spice, and some other cats living outdoors around City Hall East in Midtown. Sugar’s right hind leg was deformed to the point it was pointing upward, so she was unable to use that leg. Sugar and Spice were rescued by our Furkids friends and brought to the Furkids shelter. Unfortunately, Sugar’s leg could not be saved, so it was amputated. The vet who performed the surgery believes that someone abused Sugar by tying her leg down with a wire and she pulled her leg out of joint trying to get away. She’s very shy but shows signs of coming around with a great deal of patience. Sugar is very bonded to Spice, so they need to be adopted together. Colby was born approximately June, 2004. This is one sweet boy! He is a truly delightful little guy who likes to be called Colby Shizzle. He loves to be sung to and will blink his eyes at you while you sing, to tell you how much he appreciates it. He has a very loud purr and will let you know when he is in need of some holdin’ and lovin’ and pettin’ and squeezin’. Like his brother, he has a tiny little meow that sounds a bit like a kitten. He loves kisses on his head and nose, scratches on his cheeks and enjoys having his belly rubbed. This is the most non-aggressive cat I’ve ever seen and will not fight back even if he’s picked on. Colby is very good with nail trims and will lie quite still while you trim both front and back paws. He loves other cats and gets along great with them, and even likes my small dog. When it’s dinner time, he will come in the kitchen and give little cries of encouragement, to help hurry me along in fixing his food. Colby is a bit shyer than his brother and Jack helps bring him out of his shell. They are very bonded and must be adopted together. Charlie has a thick coat and full fluffy tail, as well as a little white horse shoe between his eyes for luck. He was abandoned by some neighbors a few doors down and has become a fine hunter for that time on his own, but he really prefers to spend time inside with his friends or curled up under a window. He gets along very well with human strangers as well as other animals. I have a 12-year-old cranky cat who's not too partial to strange cats, and when Charlie senses her discontent he lies flat and submits to the animal already dominant in the household. He's a good "companion" in that when he is outside, he likes to follow his person even for a walk through the neighborhood, and when sitting he likes to sit erect right next to you like an Egyptian guardian.

Date of birth: approx 12/27/2000. Mistress is a true one-of-a-kind cat. She's large and probably part-Persian, with a long coat that needs gentle brushing. Mistress is our resident Queen of Cattitude. She may growl and carry on as if she doesn't like people, but she is actually very people-oriented. When you go in her room, she will stay right by your side and occasionally even try to groom you by licking you. Hi!! My foster mom told me to tell you a bit about myself . . . it is hard for me . . . I’m a bit shy. But I am SO ANXIOUS to find out if you may be my forever life companion so read what I have written: I love to play with my brothers, Max and Sparky, chase the light pen, sit on the kitty condo and play with all sorts of things that fly around on the floor. If you look at my picture you can see I have large green eyes rimmed in black. I am a petite orange, white and tan calico with some faint stripes on my legs. Even though I look small – I am grown up!! And if you could touch me, you would find me quite soft. I love chin scratches and gentle belly rubs. I do chatter on now and then. I don’t want to be alone since I have always had one of my brothers with me. They keep me marvelous company now and we all get along well together. I am used to a quiet place and need time to adjust to your home. Perhaps you can make room for 2 of us J!!! (Foster mom has had 4 of us plus her 2 small dogs, 3 hermit crabs and the birds!! -- animals are her kids). Well that is about all my story – what is yours – I have a lifetime to listen . . . . Duncan of our Gwinnett 14! Duncan weighed in at 8.2 lbs and is a strikingly handsome black and white boy. He is still a little shy but coming around nicely. He is currently being treated for a mouth infection, ear mites and also has a heart murmur. His mouth is going to require some extensive dental work as he has puss in it. He also has an old umbilical hernia that is non reducible, but the doctor said it is not causing him any pain. Like his other mates, both of his ears are infected and he has a very bad case of ear mites that we are treating. Duncan like Annabelle and a few others will also require an ultra sound to determine the severity of his heart murmur. Date of birth: June 2004. Jack is a handsome, mostly white cat, with the softest fur you’ve ever felt! He likes to be called Jack Jack or Jack Jack Shellack. He loves kisses on his head and nose and to be scratched all over, especially by his tail and will give you the ‘elevator butt’ in response. He enjoys being held like a baby and even likes being covered up with a baby blanket. He likes to eat and will walk around the food bowls chattering his breakfast and dinner order so that you know exactly what he wants. He has a tiny little meow and he tends to chatter instead of giving one big meow, it’s very cute! Jack is playful and energetic and loves playing chase with the other cats in the house. When he was examined by a vet, they found BBs around his tail, which caused an infection, so he was obviously shot at while he was looking for a safe place to live. The buckshot was removed and antibiotics removed any signs of infection. Although he has tested positive for FIV, Sparky is otherwise a very healthy cat. He has been fully vaccinated and neutered. UPDATE 1/25/08 : Scooter (Fannie) died in my arms Friday morning, wrapped in her yellow baby blanket. Her last experience was of gentle words and a loving embrace. She was fifteen months and four days old. That is a short span, even for a Leukemia cat. But I believe that the value of a life is not measured by the number of days, months or years lived, or by its beauty or rarity, or even by the benefit it brings to us. I believe that the value of an animal’s life is measureless, and that Scooter’s fifteen months were as worthy to be lived as the life of any champion racehorse, rare Bengal tiger or pedigreed pet. Her great gift was the joy she brought to our house. We were grateful for every day. And she never seemed perplexed that I needed to tell her every day that I loved her. So now I have this great big needy boy-cat, Scooter’s brother, who needs all of my love and attention. I don’t think he has ever been without his baby sister before. He wants to be picked up and carried around the house all the time, leaning out over my shoulder the way a dog leans out of a car window. Thank goodness for him. For both of them! Date of birth: approx 6/22/2007. Babette is very affectionate. She purrs when you pick her up & stroke her. She doesn't mind being held at all. She lets me hold her as long as I want to. She never struggles to get away. She's easy to get out of a crate, but a little trickier if she's loose in the room. She doesn't come right to you. I have to lure her with a toy, but she's extremely playful with toys, so that's not that hard. She plays well with the other kittens. She's a bit feisty with Brady, but I think he brings it out in her. She squeals & hisses, then when he walks away, she pounces him. She's a great kitten...so playful, but then so sweet when you hold her. Her biggest "weakness" at this point is running away from you if you're trying to get her in a room. But she's not so shy you can't get her to come with a toy (or food), so I think she'll get over this. Must have a cat companion. Babette does great with children. Who says black and brown don't go together? My short, thick coat is the perfect combination (the author of my biography wonders if you know that tortoiseshells, or "torties," have a hard time finding homes). So stop looking at those other cats and see the beauty in me. I am playful and energetic. I rearrange my cage whenever possible. I was actually born in the wild. You probably noticed my ususual ear. "Eartipping" is done to feral cats when they get fixed. Little did they know, but I didn't want to be wild anymore. I am very tame and loving now. If you touch me just right, I will reward you with purrs. If not, a simple hiss will do. My old shelter had me in a home with lots of dogs that scared me a lot. 7/16/07 UPDATE:
The kittens are wonderful - two beautiful happy healthy creatures, now 9 months old. The little girl has lustrous black fur and glittering eyes. She is as sleek and glossy as a seal, and lately, ever so slightly round. My beautiful boy is lithe and muscular--every inch the young lion. He has exceptionally large and engaging amber eyes and a sweet expression. My vet couldn't believe that they are FeLV+ and so we tested them for a third time, with the predictable result. But they are such a joy to me.
We are profoundly grateful for every day of good health. It is wonderful to see them mature into the beautiful animals that they were meant to be. I tell you, whatever disease they have, I must have also, because they get so many kisses! I realize that there will come a time when they may no longer be beautiful or healthy. They may not be capable of giving affection then, only receiving it. But they will always get lots of kisses and the best care I can possibly give them. Becky Brinkman
