Bellybands are intended for use on maledogs to protect furniture and carpet from intentional(marking) or unintentional(incontinence) urination. We have found them to be extremely effective and have not found a single dog yet that tried to remove the bellyband. Ideally, the bellyband should fit snugly and the velcro should match up. However, there is some play to allow for a full tummy, or variance in weight. The bellyband also lets you know whether your male dog is being a perfect gentleman or not - the evidence is right there on the pad. Frequently, male dogs will have an overwhelming urge to urinate in a new environment, like when vistiting friends. This can make him a very unwelcome guest - but with a bellyband, you don't have to worry about embarrassment and/or damage. We recommend the use of Poise pads(available at your grocery store) or a similar bladder control pad. They're wider and very absorbent to keep the dog dry. With this pad, it is unlikely that you would have to change it more than twice a day. For larger dogs, we recommend the largest pad we know of called 'Guards for Men'made by Assurance and sold at Walmart near the Depends. You can cut them in half for smaller dogs also. They have the best coverage. They are also suitable for long bodied dogs that tend to 'shoot' out of their bellyband due to a long waist. You may want to adjust the pad forward or backward on the bellyband for your dog. Smaller dogs frequently only use half of a pad - so you may want to cut them in half. Sometimes the pad's sticky strip is too sticky and it won't all come off the vinyl of the pad. You can rub a little corn oil or baby powder on the vinyl to prevent this problem. You can machine wash and dry your bellyband - but be sure the velcro is closed so it doesn't catch on other laundry. To figure out what size your dog needs, just measure him around the waist (the narrowest part of his middle). A fabric measuring tape works best for this. Pull the tape snug for a true measurement. Tip: If the bellyband is too loose, you can put one full pad in place and then add a half or whole pad on top of that. If your bellyband doesn't fit, just send it back with instructions on how many inches to add or remove, and include $2.00 for shipping. |
